The Naughty Little Guest | Hen House Everyday

From Katherine, our Creative Director

My dearest friend from graduate school is my soul sister.  We share a passion for kitsch, color, fabulous design and the absurd.  We also share the same childhood nickname: Lucy.  As older sisters to younger brothers, our respective mothers referred to us as the crabby, bossy, Peanut.  Recently I had the occasion to spend some time in her new home, a mid-century ranch that she and her brainy husband are restoring back to its original glory.  In other words, stripping the 1970's and 1980's away.

Maria teaches theater arts at a private high school in Atlanta.  She brings her flair to everything she does from cooking, to crafting to decorating.  And, she is a huge fan of Hen House and not even because of me.  I kid you not, she greeted me at the door in one of our aprons with a dish towel casually tossed over her shoulder where it remained for the entire evening.  My take-aways from the visit:  tiny princess telephones are a must-have accessory, fat turquoise beads never go out of style, civilized kitty cats use napkins, decorating with cherished childhood mementos is chic, radishes with homemade butter and sea salt is unbelievably tasty and SMILE and don't be a naughty little guest.

Style + substance.  That is world according to Lucy.

Oh, and Happiness is a Hen House pillow cover that perfectly fits the mattress for a doll bed that belongs to Koukla the civilized kitty.
