When I stumbled on a beautiful crop of pomegranates and persimmons in my local market, I immediately envisioned their meandering down my long narrow rustic wooden bowl. My intent was an eye-catching centerpiece for my table thrown together in a matter of minutes. The problem came when I could not find that particular bowl. So I fell back on the old design adage I use time and again: look around and use what one has on hand. Instead of the bowl, I found an oval Italian platter, a round Koa wood plate, and a slat board serving tray. Borrowing magnolia leaves from my neighbor, eucalyptus from a recent flower arrangement, and apples from the fruit bowl, I fashioned thee versions of this simple centerpiece. With our beautiful cloths as the base, my table doesn’t need much. Any one of these simple centerpieces is just the right touch. What simple find can you incorporate into your holiday tablescape?
